Students Stop by for Glucose Readings

Through the hustle and bustle of the busy school day, students had the convenience of being able to make sure their blood glucose and pressure were up to par at the Reitz Union Colonnade on Wednesday.

The event was a major success as well as a rewarding experience according to several students participating in the screenings. This week the Primary Care Committee hosted events to celebrate National Primary Care Week.

“This is my first time doing it and it’s a lot of fun. It’s cool to show people what their readings are,” said Stephanie Prasse, a University of Florida junior. “I feel really accomplished after getting it right my first time.”

Michelle Dugan, a University of Florida senior, was responsible for directing the event. Thanks to her expertise and inviting personality, the beautifully decorated screening station was turning heads all day. “Their main goal for doing this is to bring health awareness and education to the student population at UF,” said Dugan.

Although the event had the short time span of three and a half hours, its effects were massive. “It’s really cool to be able to get this done for free in such an accessible place. There should be more opportunities like this,” said Leah Bandy, a University of Florida sophomore.

The students involved put their time and care into making this event the great success that it was, and the positive feedback from those who received screenings is excellent proof of that.

A celebration event for National Primary Care is happening on Friday night, Dance for the Dominican. It will be held at Bank, downtown, to support their mission trip over spring break. It starts at 10 PM. It is $3 for 21+ and $5 for 18+.
