Beads for Life

If you’ve been attending the General Meeting’s you probably already seen the Bake Sale and Bead for Life. However, there’s more you should know about these sales. The Global Health Committee and Arts and Complementary Medicine Committee need your help to make a big difference.

ACM will be holding a bake sale at each general meeting to benefit Dance Marathon and Relay for Life. Dance Marathon raises money for Children's Miracle Network. Relay for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society. AMSA has teams participating in both of these causes. If you would like to get involved please direct your questions to the ACM directors. Their information can be found at www.ufpremed.org.

If you’ve seen, Global Health has been selling unique, not to mention gorgeous, bracelets and necklaces for an equally beautiful cause. The Bead for Life organization has brought countless women and families out of extreme poverty. By educating about business skills, entrepreneurship, and savings, innumerable lives have been changed. The Ugandan women create beads from rolled paper, make them into bracelets, necklaces, and earrings and sell them for profit. Entrepreneurial skills are taught to the Ugandan women and put into practice. The proceeds from the beads sold at our General Meetings go to community development projects, healthcare, affordable housing and vocational training for Ugandan youth. The proceeds will allow Bead for Life to continue the incredible work they have been doing. If you don’t want one for yourself, they make an awesome gift for moms, sisters and girlfriends.

When you come out tonight to the general body meeting don't forget to bring a little bit of cash with you to help these causes and earn an intercommittee point.
