Dancing and drinking all night long was a rewarding experience for American Medical Student Association as they raised $541 last night. Dance for the Dominican took place at The Bank on University Ave. and Main St. The proceeds to get into the bar went to Primary Care Committee’s Annual trip to the Dominican Republic. This year Nicole McManus, University of Florida junior, is coordinating the trip.
"I was hooked on this trip because of one teacher," said McManus. "The teacher helped us teach her rambunctious students, who by the end of the week really learned a lot." The trip is a medical service trip during spring break in which members will teach public health to children and donate medicines to the underprivileged residents of the Dominican Republic.
At the door, AMSA directors Anna Daggs and Michelle Dugan helped McManus with the raffle. Guests coming to the event had the opportunity of winning a free motorcycle or scooter inspection, free tutoring zone reviews or half of the total raffle money collected.
"Even though I am not old enough to drink, it was still fun to hang out with my friends while helping a good cause," said Kareem Issa, UF sophomore and Political and Ethics Committee member. Issa poses with fellow AMSA member Leon Chen, as they enjoy the atmosphere of Bank.
The event was overall an exciting and rewarding experience not just for AMSA members, but for anyone who contributed to the cause that night.
